YORKIE

My work aims to change the perception of what it means to be a man. Traditional, stereotypical gender roles can be damaging, specifically for men. Through my research I have found that in the UK, men are three times as likely to die by suicide than women. I believe, one of the major factors for this is men’s inability to express their emotions in a healthy manner. Men are unable to discuss their worries or insecurities with others when they are struggling out of fear of being ridiculed or becoming perceived as less of a man. Phrases like ‘man up’ and ‘don’t be a girl’ keep men restricted and trapped. But by combining male suicide with the chocolate bar Yorkie by Nestle they can tackle this problem together.
